Teenage Self Defense Classes Boston Every age group, demographic and gender experiences violence differently and has different safety issues to consider. Teenagers are a distinct and recognizable group with personal safety concerns that are different to both adults and children. Teenagers are entering the adult world but without the social experiences and developed skills that allow adults to avoid disputes and recognize danger. Also as an adult peer pressure is less important because a sense of the person as an individual has already been defined. All of these things make teenagers more susceptible to being either: a perpetrator, a bystander or a victim of violence. Occupying any one of these roles has negative long-term consequences that would be better avoided.

Teenagers are also more at risk than any other demographic group from being involved in group violence, where third parties and multiple attackers are involved. This is simply because teenagers tend to spend their time in larger groups and with more people e.g. at school, meeting friends at the mall, going to the cinema in groups etc. This makes the dynamics of violent situations that teenagers are likely face markedly different to those of older adults.

Another type of violence that is more specific to teenagers and younger people (and that is linked to teenage group violence) is that of street/public place robberies/muggings. With mobile phones and watches being expensive status symbols to a group that has a relatively low level of disposable income (and no access to credit) taking, by force or intimidation, another person’s possessions is an easy way of acquiring these items.

The teenage years are also ones where individuals become sexually active – at a time when an individual’s personal boundaries are not yet fully defined and developed. This can mean that a teenager may act in a way that they later come to regret.

We offer no “silver bullets” or magical solutions to any of these problems however we talk and discuss them and present possible solutions and strategies to: a) avoid potentially dangerous and harmful situations and b) deal with them, either verbally or physically, should they occur. We teach and reinforce core values such as self-respect and personal discipline and help develop a person’s understanding of who they are. True self-defense training is not simply about teaching escapes from holds, how to punch and kick etc but to understand what it is that defines you and why this is worth protecting and in the worst case scenario, why it is worth fighting for.

Our teenage program is suitable for both male and female particpants aged between 14 and 17. If you are looking for children's martial arts and self defense in Boston please click here.

"This was one of the best seminars I’ve ever attended. My expectations were that I’d just learn some techniques that I could use to defend myself with should I ever be attacked. I was not expecting a full education into the mind of the rapist, criminal or violent person I might be dealing with. "

Claire H, Boston

"It wasn’t the techniques I came away with which were the most valuable things I learnt but all the safety advice. I will never remotely unlock my car again and I don’t think I’m alone on this! "

Danielle R, Everett

"There is a real and dire need for young women to start learning about these things and with the schools failing in their responsibility to have classes about female personal safety I am so glad I found your program. Learning self defense is one thing but understanding what things can be done to prevent an assault in the first place is so much more important. "

Angela B, Swampscott

"As a single woman living away from home for the first time I knew I needed some advice just so I could feel safe. The training I received in just 2 hours was more than good advice it was a systematic approach on how to stay safe. "

Susan R, Medford

"After attending you free seminar I am inspired to go back to university and take up my psychology books again! Simply fascinating and undeniably practical. I don’t know where you received your academic training but that’s the place I want to go. "

Jane D, Boston

"This course has given me the confidence and the assurance to start living my life again. I was assaulted over 15 years ago and this was the first time I really started to understand what had happened and why I have lived my life feeling the way I do. I know the course was not intended to be therapy but that was largely what it was for me. "
